Wetsuits & Lighthouses

Onlookers enjoy the annual Port Fairy Life Saving Club's 1.2km beach swim. This year it attracted over 600 swimmers. The woman who came dead last received an enormous round of applause from the crowd as she made it to the finish line, exhausted and grinning. Regardless of how fit or unfit you might be, this competition is open to all.

Griffith Island (at Port Fairy) is home to a beautiful lighthouse, built in 1859 by Scottish stonemasons, from bluestone. The lightkeeper's house has long since gone however the bluestone foundations remain, as do the large Norfolk Pine trees that line one side of the path.
