Here is some random stuff from the last little while...
One day, Jase decided it would be yummy to make marcarons for all the staff. I'm not kidding, many of the staff asked and asked "are they ready yet? Are they ready yet?" and we had lots of people wander into the kitchen, following the waft of fresh pandanus leaves and coconut milk. After two laborious days, this is the delightful result: a chilli-infused macadamia macaron shell, with a creamy coconut milk, pandanus and palm sugar centre.
I thought it might be nice to put in some photos of the resort so you can see where we have lived over the last 3 months (I know, 3 months - can you believe it?).

| View from the lizard enclosure, looking towards the Glen Helen Gorge, which rises 300m in the background. In the centre of the photo is the laundry, and to the right, the "A Block" of the Hotel. A Block overlooks the Finke River - it really is very beautiful. |
| You might have seen this photo in a previous post. This is our restaurant, the Namitjira Restaurant & Gallery. Phil, our favourite Brit, is looking sheepish on the right of the photo. |
| From the lizard enclosure, looking towards the Bunkhouses. This 'spectacular' view (not really) includes prime views of the clothes line. |
| Dara, Dean, Slim and Ryan play a game of scrabble. Every day. |
| The Hotel includes a beautiful swimming pool. Shame it's been too cold to enjoy.... |
| View of the Finke from the Hotel's A Block. Seriously perfect location. Just sit outside your room with a glass of wine and watch cormorants dip for fish, the local dingo sniff out scraps or insects, or hawks circle overhead. One day, while on Housekeeping duty, I spotted a "willy willy"; a small but fast cyclone, which whisked across the water, through the rustling bullrushes, and up the side of the gorge's cliffs to the very top, where it teased the leaves out of some small gums before dissipating. You can see just about anything here at Glen Helen! |
| Prime location for lunch. |
| Jase and I walked this path hundreds of times during our stay at Glen Helen. This is the walkway between the kitchen/homestead and the washroom (yes that's right, washing dishes takes place in its own little building). Straight ahead is the hotel, with the Finke to the left. |
| The laundry, where I enjoyed a few shifts on housekeeping duties. |
Want a bbq? Our "Bbq nights" all take place here, right outside the homestead. This undercover area overlooks the cliffs and is a lovely spot in the morning or evening. To the left is the kitchen (my home), and forward and to the left is the homestead (Jase's turf).

| We get some good looking bugs out here in the outback. This centipede was spotted, caught and kept to be fed to Feisty, the local dragon. Phil, Jase and Adam looked on, armed with cameras. |
| True to her name, Feisty takes a nip of Colin's jeans. |
Jase, Mark, Dean and Stacey joined Ryan in Alice Springs for a game of golf.... and a drink or three....
| Buggies are a must |
| Check out that swing... and check out those pants!! |
| A quick bee-line to the liquor shop before heading for home |
| It's all a bit much for Mark & Dean (PS Mark might be asleep, but he's still clutching his beer!!) |
Aaaaah... now you must see the Wall Of Awesomeness which resides next to the pool table. These are all photos of staff, and include a 'very special' photo of Jase and I (which I have shrunk on the website to avoid offending....)
perhaps you could use the shrunken pic as a postcard, tee hee.....
ReplyDeleteand i bet they dont use Scrabble Solver or the Dick!!!
so great knowing what you've been up to, where you've been livin' and who you've been hangin' out with :)))
Christopher wants you to bring a centipede to PF for him please :)
