Normanton Rodeo (Saturday)

It's Saturday and we are really getting into the swing of this rodeo caper.  Cowboys ride horses everywhere - to the loo, to the shop, to the bar....  it's great!  Add to that the indigenous flavour of this little population, it feel united and it feels really good.

Today the Camp Draft is finishing (thank god, how many times must we watch a horse chase a cow around a barrel?) and we are onto some different activities.  It's a day of eating, relaxing, drinking, and watching other people risk their lives for our entertainment.

Aaah this is the life!

A quick bite at the local eatery.  With the locals.

Horses everywhere.

This cowboy defies gravity by hoisting this calf horizontally to tie him up.

Is this calf trying to "mooo"?  His tongue is sticking out a mile!!  And how behaved are the horses? - just brilliant.
I wanna be a cowboy.

At the chutes, competitors, judges and mates gather to drink, watch and help out.

At night the carnival takes on a bright noisy persona.  Here, the Twister gets a regular stream of people wanting to make themselves so dizzy they risk losing their recently-drunk XXX Gold!

The worker on the Twister.  He jumps onto the ride, mid spin, and will triwl your carriage wildly so it spins out of control.  He looks fantastic as he balances on the very-unstable platforms and hops from carriage to carriage.

We hang out with our neighbours each day and night: Joe, Benji, and Cheeky Locky.

Eve and Joe are disturbed.. or just disturbing.  Lachlan grins in the foreground.

Cheeky Locky!!

Locky, Joe and a few randoms who wanted their photo taken with "Chops".
