Port Fairy

Time for Port Fairy again!

This time, leaving "home" felt a little stranger than I expected - "home" being Nearly Creek, which is a new for us, depsite us owning this little piece of heaven since 1997.  A little pang of homesickness fluttered in my chest as we descended down the driveway, onto the highway, and westward to PF.

Upon arrival the usual sights were seen - the campsite of Bob & Leanne, Paul & Kirsten, and Rebecca & Tony.  One glance at those adorable children Theabella and Christopher had them rushing towards us and offering a nice tight hug.  Aaah, we're back at last.

Our dear friends Tam and Paulie have joined us for a few days this time (hooray!!), to relax and absorb themselves into the fun & frivolities that the Moyenyana Festival has to offer.

Tam provided us with some delights from home, lovingly cooked and ready for devouring - a delicious tuna bake complete with spinach and melty cheese (oh my god to die for), and kapus which was also scrumptious (but gave everybody gas!!).  Tam's mum also propvided her with a huge Christmas cake which we enjoyed over the next few days.

We introduced Paul to our regular cheap red wine, which Paul has named "Chateau d'Cardboard", and which got a nice work-out in the few days that they were at Port Fairy.

So, between the 27th December and New Year's Day, we enjoyed the following activities:
  • Swimming at the beach
  • Fish and chips at Warrnambool
  • A pleasant "heritage" walk, during which we admired some lovely historic buildings and their gardens
  • A brisk walk thru the PF carnival
  • Board games at Rebecca & Tony's
  • An attempt at wine tasting (actually, there are only a handful of wineries in the region, and none of them offer tastings or cellar door sales)
  • Wandering through antique stores
  • A safari drive through Tower Hill, followed by a short walk up to the look out
  • Counter lunch at the Star Hotel (nice tender steak)
  • The Moyneyana Parade (a bit like moomba)
  • A game of pool at the local pub on New Year's Eve
  • Enjoying the NYE fireworks display
  • The annual "rubber duck race" held by the local Surf Lifesaving Club (our duck didn't win)
  • Local farmers/craft market
