Gooberheads

Today is the day we arrive in Northern Territory!

The van is looking pretty average, orange and dusty. In fact, it is an endless battle fighting the dust that creeps into the van every time the door is opened so I have just about given up keeping it clean. But on the outside, I love its ‘new look’. We finally look like real travellers!

The weather is hot today, actually it's been quite hot ever since we arrived in Woomera. The flies seem to multiply exponentially the further north we get, and they love our eyes, mouth and ears. That being said, the fly nets that Rebecca gave us way back in January are life savers!

We are heading towards Uluru (Ayres Rock) and should be there tomorrow. As we traverse this never-ending stretch of tarmac, Jase calls out, “I can see it!”

We pull over at the first opportunity and look.

“Looks different to what I expected. Maybe we’re looking at it from another side.”

“Why does it seem to have a flat top?”

“I wonder why it has all that dirt piled up along the bottom?”

We take a bunch of photos and I feel myself getting more and more excited. Oh my god, this is Ayres Rock, I can’t believe I’m actually looking at this thing!!

Later, when chatting with fellow campers at Curtin Springs, we are politely informed that the mountain we were observing is not Uluru in fact, but Mt Conner.
