Pt Plomer

My brother Gav phoned and was curious to know where we were camped.  "Point Plomer!" I responded.  "Euugh," said Gav, "Sounds like a plumber's crack or something like that!"  Ha ha ha!

Pt Plomer is a piece of coast lined with squeaky white beaches, crisp green water, and an abundance of fish.  We stayed here for 2 nights and went fishing a few times with Terry, Sue & their camping neighbour Tim.  They come here every year and their local knowledge was invaluable - they knew the spots to fish, how to get there (ie driving across the beach), which local bait to use (and where to find it), and when to call it quits (very important - it's easy to linger in one location without reward).

Great fun, guys!

Every night we enjoy a fire-cooked dinner.  Here, I have another camper's pet magpie nestled comfortably on my hand.

Car tracks along the beach; evidence of some great fishing!

Bream caught on pipis or yabbies found right here on the beach is terrific fun!

Tim, Terry & I get busy cleaning our catch: bream, whiting, darts and flathead.  Mmmmmmmmmmm

When leaving Pt Plomer we decided it would be best to hang out in a free-stop; however the weather was extremely hot (45 degrees according to one local) and so we decided to veer off the highway and find a cheap caravan park, so that we could get electricity and use the air conditioner.  Clarence Town was our choice - an odd little town with a scattering of very old houses and buildings amongst lean-tos and filthy yards.  To get to Clarence Town you must first cross this bridge - and this was a HARROWING experience!!  There was only about 2 inches of clearance on either side of the caravan.  Luckily we made it through....

Along our travels I spotted the first reference to our local highway, the Hume.  Must be getting close to home now!!!

Great photo of the boys fishing - makes you want to get out there and fish, too. You can almost taste the fresh sea air from the photo!
