This watering hole was just opened to swimmers today! Saltwater crocodiles do not frequent these waters, however the rangers have patrolled the area and set out traps, in order to declare the water safe for tourists.
We were the first of the tourists to dip, and although a little frightening (it’s very deep here), it was fascinating to view the water from below with snorkel and mask. There is a huge abundance of fish here, such as cat fish, bream, and gropers, and they don't mind you getting up close to watch them pick at the algae on the rocks, which border this beautiful watering hole.
If you are game enough, you can swim under the waterfall itself and feel the force of the water push you out and away from the area. A million bubbles tickle you as the current sends you back out into the middle of the pond.
There is also a bush track which leads you up and behind the falls and into areas which have a spectacular view of the overall landscape.
Here are some photos that we took during our walk around the Upper Pond (still closed to swimmers).
